Friday Free for All -February 5th 2010

By 250 News

Friday, February 05, 2010 12:00 AM

The groundhogs in the east would have  us believe   we  are in  for another  six weeks of winter,  not so say the western versions. That was the big debate to start  this past week.

The week  wrapped  up with debate on bio-solids  with  the residents of  Red Rock  saying its all a bunch of "b-s".

So here  we are,  another   Friday Free For All,  your opportunity to speak up  on the issues  and items that  you  feel  are important.

  • Keep it clean
  • Keep it legal
  • No  bullying of other posters.

Barrel down, gas on the way up

Well the city employeees are out filling pot holes...nice of them, but I find it a little odd that they are placing the patching compound into wet potholes...and then tamping it down ...with their foot...
I am no road scientist but do remember a certain amount of highschool science that says water will freeze and it then expands...so no doubt these patches will be broken loose by the freezing and it will be just a matter of time until the vehicles will break up these loose patches...
wonder what bozo thought up this method of patching pot holes...
Can we avoid the pothole patching posts this year please. We know the CIty is doing it wrong and that there is better equipment out there.

They are not interested. If it was good enough for their fathers and grandfthers, it is good enough for them. So we are stuck.
Has anyone seen the new Duchess Park School? The design build team must have stolen the drawings from the 1970s. Not very attractive. The GC seems to be taking a long time- the Sandman may beat them!
Pretty smart- building a new school when 14 others are on the block. I thought people that planned this stuff were educated.
Yes, I agree gus. Potholes is a boring subject that's been beaten to death on this site. We can't do anything about them anyway other than call them into the city.
What with the sign "For Quesnel use Left Lane" Must have been a tourist that cut me off becuase after passing sign he swerved and cut me off. Going to be an accident for no reason, the road is two lanes now and no need for that sign.
Its "Friday free for all" gus and mythoughts!
Who made you two moderators!
Any thoughts on Vander Zalm exterminating the HST in BC?
Ben, will you be trying to have him on your show?
I noticed on the USW widget above, that lumber is climbing nicely!
Finally some good news for Terrace - the huge new biomass plant!

I have to agree that potholes should not be declared unmentionable!

Many posters here have pet peeves and they have been posting about them over and over - Cameron Street Bridge, airport runway extension, the roundabout, closing of schools, objections to the Olympics, Gordo (!) and so forth.

Why not let everyone vent their frustration now and then?

Potholes are an indication of a degree of lack of financial management and order of priority.

How about from potholes to an onion ring/Stephen Harper? Something different to think about. :)

One of the fastest growing fan pages:

Heidi, good one. I was expecting to see Svend Robinson as the sponsor lol... now that would be funny considering his past run ins with rings.
Here is a link to a fantastic story on municipal politics of taxation in a recession.

Notice how the people of Colorado Springs refuse to see property taxes implemented on their homes... city admin is taking huge pay cuts instead... in a recession they make cut backs to make things work, rather than simply tax the unemployed home owners like municipal hostages... also note how the mayor and councilors are part time positions that only receive $6250 a year for their services to run a city that is 5-times the size of PG as Colorado's second largest city.

I would bet those people in Colorado Springs will be positioned to grow when the economy turns around, because they are not sinking in debt piled up during the recession... unlike other cities we all know of....

http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_14303473
I also like how in Colorado the municipalities are funded by sales taxes rather than property taxes to home owners. They don't tax their unemployed home owners so they can keep their homes, but rather fund their cities through the voluntary taxation of everyone in the community including renters, tourists, and business via a sales tax... if you can't afford to pay taxes than you don't buy things. The way it should be when everyone votes.
Schools closing!!that one on Austin Rd can go,and it is YEA!!And the parents have nothin to scream about THEY put Bob's yer Drunkel[Campbell] in for the 3rd time,so how do ya like him now!!Just wait till the bill comes in for your Olympic's,not mine I could give a DAMN.
and yes filling the potholes now a big waste of bucks, hell of a make work project 4trucks 9 men!!about $400 a hole..
next long weekend is a long way away ain't it!!why did gas go up a nickel,is this another of the DRUNKELS carbon tax things!
And last ,too the brain dead that can not take excess snow off your auto, yer lazy, yer ignorant and the fine is $127,not that your going to get a ticket, they are busy busting the grow ops..hehehehe.
If anyone can prove with DATA that alcohol is better and safer then Cannabis,I will them pay $5000.oo bucks!! any takers...
Well, zyblx, if cannabis caused that rant then I think you owe yourself $5000.00 ;-)

ps - the city knows that these are temporary patches, that is why they are done quick and cheap. They are still better to drive over than a 20cm deep hole.
and the horse U rode in on.....
I can not drink and drive..I can smoke and fly!
speaking of roads, best stay away from Patterson Rd. We will now have bio-solids being transported, logging trucks, school bus, residents, and sometimes stray farm animals travelling on our poorly kept gravel road. Apparently, nothing we can do about it.
zyblxteu:
You are not helping in this matter. Your ill composed, misspelled, grammar deficient rant only helps the other side of the argument. If that was your intent, you are successful. Somehow I doubt that was your intent.

IMO, if you want to effect change in our federal legislation, get yourself educated. Get yourself academically educated so you can construct a sound argument presented in a concise and eloquent manifest.

Get yourself educated in the facts, including figures (the numbers), because it is a business world and our governments apparent sole purpose is to support business. To get their attention, they want you to "show them the money!" To sway the general population, you need to disprove the propaganda the government has so generously provided for sheeple to blindly accept.
I would like to commend 'Jet Set' ticket agency in Vancouver who not only donated tickets for the 11 or so make a wish children, but have now put up accomdations for them since the cruise ship that was to has backed out of being in Vancouver.!

Good news to hear about, with all the negativity I hear lately.
{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}} to you all!!!

come on get over here!! GROUP HUG!!

wishing you all a marvelous weekend!!
While we are bringing up the always popular topic of gas prices, it was 86.9 for gas in edmonton when I left there yesterday.
I notice on Peden Hill (going up) they still have the government renovation signs still up for the intersection job. Maybe Gordo doesn't want us to forget too soon.
Sounds to me like zyblxteu has some other stuff mixed in with his BC Bud. Sure hope he isn't driving.
verballabel:- "Any thoughts on Vander Zalm exterminating the HST in BC?"
------------------------------------------
It won't be Vander Zalm that exterminates the HST. If that happens, it'll be us. He, and a number of other concerned British Columbians from right across the whole political spectrum, have only added their voices and organizational skills to helping get the process going. And he, and they, deserve our gratitude for doing that.

The rest, if we truly want to kill the HST, is up to each of us. To do our bit ~ to sign the upcoming Petition that can force a Referendum to be held on it. If we do nothing, we'll have only ourselves to blame for the increase in taxation the HST will impose.

Don't be misled by the lame excuses that Campbell's government put out. What Campbell's government, and every other government in this country needs is proper accounting. Without that, the way they'll all continue to increase our taxes is no more than outright robbery.
Socredible is right.

Now that this anti-HST petition has been approved by the Chief Electoral Officer, it is now up to the Registered Voters who disaprove of the HST to sign the petition.

In fact it is now time for as many people as possible to sign up to be canvassers. Canvassers have to be registered with the Elections Office. All the necessary information will be forthcoming.

This ;petition is a significant task. It will be necessary to get 10% of the registered voters in all 87 ridings for it to become effective.

I strongly suggest that all people who want to sign the petition to be sure to register to vote if you havent already done so.

In addtion it is time to ensure that the petition is signed. No more mealy mouthed excuses that nothing can be done. Something in fact can be done,. but it requires us to get off our asses and do something.

This will be your only chance to send a message to Mr. Campbell, as he will probably not run in the next election.

Better he go out with this HST petition staring him in the face, than have him go out under the illusion, that the people of British Columbia actually agree with anything that he has done.

This petition has to be the first nail in the coffin of Governments who are out of control, and think that they can do what ever the hell they want, with no concern about repercussions.

Our City Hall should take note. When we say we do not want anymore tax increases, that is exactly what we mean. When we say we want spending reduced, that is exactly what we mean.

The time of Goverments ignoring the peoples wishes has to come to an end. The only weapon we have in our arsenal is the VOTE. We should use it wisely, and over time the Politicians will get the message.

A few days ago I saw a piece on the Telly about the screwed up lives of three teenagers who became total schizophrenics after getting addicted to smoking pot.

Apparently the stuff is not as harmless as some like to say it is.

More children need to take the D.A.R.E. before it is too late!
Wow - they walk among us..
re: zyblxteu

Wow... I find your attitude offensive... you need to tone it down a bit on here.

diplomat worte: "A few days ago I saw a piece on the Telly about the screwed up lives of three teenagers"

I saw this on the telly

The telly always tells the truth.
