Prince George, B.C. -   City Councillors have approved a development variance permit for a proposed expansion at a senior's housing complex along the Hart Highway.

The applicants, Martin and Patricia Marsolais and Colin & Matthew Holdings Ltd, were looking to reduce the number of parking spaces required as part of the development at the Country Senior's Community at 7364 and 7405 Hart Highway.

They plan to replace an existing single family home on the site with 30 additional living units in six new buildings.  The city's bylaw requires 90 parking spaces, but the permit will allow the to reduce that number to 65.

Residents at the community currently use less than 50-percent of the available parking spaces.

Finally a GOOD decision by City Council!
Maybe the term "variance" can be interpreted as "common sense".
