Prince George, B.C. -  City councillors have approved a development permit for an 837-square metre commercial building at 2591 Vance Road.

The applicant, Blanleil Cranbrook Holdings Ltd, plans to demolish the existing building on-site -- the new building will house an audiotronics store on one side and the other side will be rented out for retail use.  It's look should be more pleasing to the eye -- a stucco facade painted brown, glass windows on the north and west sides, with black fabric awnings.

Included in the permit are a couple of variances, including a reduction to the landscape requirements for open space, a reduction in the required landscape screening, and a reduction in the number of required parking stalls.

Access and egress to the property will be via Hollandia Drive, which city staff says will minimize an interference with traffic and pedestrians on adjacent roads.

Hopefully Andres Audiotronics will do good ext to Future Shop. I've heard they do good custom home audio work!
Glad for the development, but do we have to get this kind of thing while also giving up landscape requirements and appropriate parking. Whoever continues to be behind these kind of successful variances should be ashamed of themselves as they are selling out a chance to make PG look less like one large car lot, and a little more like a community that cares what our image is.
Can we be assured that everyone will be able to access and spend money in the place? Construction is still being built in the city that not everyone can access. Stores in Riverstone Mall for example. I think that is the name of the mall over behind West Side Mario's.

It cuts into a retailer's profits if someone in a manual wheelchair cannot open the door to enter or a low vision customer cannot see the products on the shelf. At the minimum, electric door openers are needed in many of the businesses.

Power chairs and scooters are becoming way more common in public and they spend coin too. I have even seen a good many manual chairs too! Mobility problems seem to affect a large portion of the public in Prince George.

Please consider those with Vision and mobility problems when designing the buildings like this and you will be assured that 100 percent of the market can be fully gouged, ensuring your future!
