Quesnel, B.C. -  Quesnel RCMP say one person was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97S this morning that closed the route for approximately six-hours.

Witnesses reported seeing a northbound brown van cross the centre line and collide, head-on, with an oncoming white pick-up truck just after eight this morning, near Tamarack Road.

Police says the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene by B.C. ambulance personnel. The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to G.R. Baker Memorial hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both drivers are residents of Quesnel.  The name of the deceases will not be released at this time.

The RCMP, B.C. Coroner's Agent, and Worksafe B.C. are investigating the circumstances surround the collision.

No word, yet, on why Worksafe B.C. is involved.

So close the highway for six hours when there are witnesses?

Condolenses all around and I hope the driver of the white vehicle will be OK phisicaly and mentaly.

"So close the highway for six hours when there are witnesses?"

I guess there must be a faster way to do an investigation? As a first responder, I was on scene for a quite a few accidents such as this one. The analysts do quite job and if it's to be done right, it takes time.
Ya gotta pay attention out there people.

Karo, what would it have been if it wasn't a Hydro pickup? Not so sadly? Strange comment.

It's normal to close the highway after fatal crashes. Witnesses or not. Thats how evidence is preserved.
The van was driven by a Grade 11 student who they think was texting while driving. His death was released to the school he attended. The truck was driven by a BC Hydro meter reader. Seeing the wreckage this morning, it looked as if the truck tried to pull over to the right offas far as she could but the van just kept coming and they hit on front left corners.
sad all around for all those involved
