Prince George, B.C.- The warmer temperatures have allowed City of Prince George crews to start their street sweeping operations to rid the roads of the sand and gravel spread for traction during the winter months.
Supervisor of the Streets Division, Ed Shearer, says overnight crews have already started some sweeping operations, but as of today, all three shifts will be involved in the activity.
“We try to flush off the sidewalks ad boulevards in the downtown area first” says Shearer, who adds he has noticed some private parking lot   owners have already started the clean up.   Sweeping operations can create a lot of dust if water is not used to dampen the sand and gravel on the paved surfaces. Shearer says he has noticed at least one private operator not using water to reduce the dust.
Barring a major snow storm, the City crews will be out in full force for sweeping operations today and the clean up will last 6-8 weeks.

Nice to see it done early this year. We will have an extended dust free spring and summer.
What will fill the pot holes till it's warm enough to PROPERlY repair them with a hot patch and a hot joint (not an herbal reference)?
Rolled up tax dollars can cushion the bump in potholes.
The City crews are doing a great job so early in the season.

The person in charge of this proactive effort should be promoted to mayor immediately!
Thankyou Mr PG for putting a positive comment.
I walk to work every day and am pleased to see the sweeping begin already. Thank you.
yes, a great effort.................but? Why was it last week, when the forecast was for -6, the City in all it's wisdom, was watering down the streets to reduce the dust while sweeping? It was -5 or -6 outside! Hello, water freezes at -0+

It was a make work project for sure I'll tell you. They watered the street, swept it as fast as they could, it turned into a skating rink, they sanded it!!! And around and around it goes.

Some heads at the top, need to roll at City Hall.
