Prince George, B.C.- We may be spared any type of flood threat during the spring freshet of 2010. The latest snow pillow data indicates snow conditions in the major river basins declined steadily during January and February.
The Upper Fraser, Nechako, Lower Fraser, Thompson and Upper Columbia are in the 88-96% of normal range. The Lower Columbia, Okanagan, Kettle, Similkameen and Kootenay are in the 75% to 82% of normal. The Skeena is at 76% of normal range
High elevations on the South Coast are near normal; all basins currently have below normal snow water,.
Observations across the province would suggest low and mid elevation snow is well below normal. Following the major drought of the 2009 summer, the snow conditions in south and central B.C. indicate there is a potential for water supply challenges again this summer.
