Prince George, B.C.- The development of the Northern Cancer Centre reached another milestone today with the start of renovations  to the lab services and medical imaging areas of the University  Hospital of Northern B.C.

The $8.3 million dollar renovations will be done in two phaases. Phase one  starts  now and will  include lab and medical imaging renovations,  which are expected to be completed by early next year.  Phase two will  develop 6 onocology beds  and those renovations will start in 2012 when the new Cancer Centre has opened.

Phase One of the project at UHNBC includes renovations to provide extra space (including a very small addition onto the existing hospital), new clinical equipment, and upgrades to the physical plant building site so it can service both the needs of the hospital and the new cancer centre.

The Fraser Fort George Regional Hospital District is funding 40 per cent of the total project costs.
