Prince George – Jim Steele of Enviroment Canada says: Well so much for the mild Spring.. May got off to a rather cool start for the first 10 days, then signs of Spring arrived with temperatures climbing into the low 20’s between the 14th and 18th.
Unfortunately, this did not last as the Long Weekend approach, things went into the tank, big time. The daytime highs on the 21st and 22nd didn’t even manage to climb out of the single digits, burr.
A bit of a reprieve arrived for the last week of the month with temperatures climbing back to near normal values. Still, with the very cool period to start the month and the Long weekend stumble, monthly mean temperatures ended up about a degree below normal.
On the precipitation side of things, a wet start to the month with rain and wet snow, then a dry period between the 5th and 17th. A 5 day stretch between the 18th and 22nd was highlighted by very wet conditions with the 21st standing out as one we could just give back or forget, 20 mm of rain and 4 cm of snow.
Conditions dried out nicely during the last week however total monthly precipitation still ended up just shy of normal, 48 mm verses normal 51 mm.
Into the record books, May 2010 would show as cool with near normal precipitation.
