Prince George, B.C.  While the latest stats from CMHC indicate a healthy increase in the number of  single detached housing starts in Prince George last month,  the  fact there were no  multiple unit starts left the city in a negative  number for overall starts in June.

The  stats show a 77.8% increase in the number of single detached starts compared to the same month last year.  The fact there were no multiple unit construction starts last month compared to 14 in  June of 2009,  left the city with an overall drop  of 30.4% in overall starts.

The good  news is, the first six months of the year are well above the same period a year  ago.  This year,  there has been  a 95%  overall increase in housing contruction starts over the first six months of  last year.
