Prince George, B.C. - Human carelessness  is being blamed  for  13 of 32 new wildfires started on Thursday.  Nearly half  occured in the   Prince George Fire Centre.

Minister of Forests and Range, Pat Bell says this is  a concern "Even one human-caused fire is too many," said Bell, "We are entering a critical period for wildfire activity in B.C. and fire crews must be available to manage naturally occurring fires caused by
lightning."

Five of the six fire centres responded to human-caused fires Thursday. Six  of these occurred in the Prince George Fire Centre. While most of the fires were contained under one hectare and were not a threat to communities, the largest human-caused fire, near Dall Lake, approximately 140 kilometres east of Dease Lake, grew to 350 hectares.

Warm and dry conditions have caused the wildfire hazard to increase significantly this week. Over 62 per cent of the province's area is currently at a high or extreme fire danger rating, compared to 19 per cent the same time last week.

While many of the specific fire causes have not been determined, five were started by people burning debris. One was caused by a campfire. Even small fires can cause a wildfire, so it is important that people treat all fires, regardless of the size, with care and caution. Always take the proper steps to prevent your fire from escaping.

Since April 1, firefighters have responded to 402 fires around the province.

Will they be billing the people that started the fires (assuming that they know whom they are) for the costs involved, or will the rest of us have to pay?
If they know who started the human caused fires they will prosecute. They should also award Idiot trophies to those that stand and watch a forest fire all day and don't report it. I guess it was to expensive for all the people camping at Tacheeda Lake last weekend to drive to bear lake and use the phone. A fire had been burning all day and went unreported until app 4 pm while everyone out there did nothing.

Heres your sign!!!
You shouldn't be surprised, with all th slash piles they burn around PG...smoke is normal in the bush, you obviously don't spend enough time out there.
I think there's a big difference between prosecuting and billing the fire starters. Billing for putting out the fires is going to be a lot nastier than a possible slap on the wrist and a little token fine.
The funny thing is Jim13135, forest fire fighting is what I do for a living. In case you missed it, there has been an open fire ban for a few weeks now. Nothing over .05 meters in size. So you tell me when this burning restriction is in place, just who in their right minds would be burning slash piles? Smoke is only normal in the bush when its permitted. When restrictions are in place everyone should know that and act accordingly. Big smoke in the bush during restrictions means trouble to anyone with an actual brain!
I obviously don't spend enough time out there? Ya ok.
