Prince George, B.C. - An Allison Crescent , Beaverly resident says he is concerned not only for himself but also neighbours after a balloon filled with what was believed to be gasoline was thrown into a shelter holding his pet dogs.
Dale and Janet Florell were out last Saturday attending a family event and when they returned they found someone had tried to light on fire the 6 dogs (Staffordshire Terriers) that were housed in a dog run.  The six dogs range in age from under one  to 13 1/2 years.
Florell says that none of the dogs was hurt, although a burn track was found leading to the area in which they are kept..
The Florell’s are trying to make sure their neighbours are  advised of this  activity so they don't fall victim to the same king of act.
Police say they are investigating.

I think the kids should become known to the neighbours, and be treated like outcasts, and have them earn their way back into the community. The First Nations use to have this process, which gave the opportunity of the outcast to earn their way back into the community. We white folks just seems to have forgotten this technique with all this sophistication.

Wow, me complimenting the first nations. Well, the more I take the time to understand their grass roots culture, the more I respect it. Not the ones on the streets, but the ones that have the old true values.

Who said this was kids? I wonder what the reason for this actually was. Could it have be someone, an adult, really tired of having 6 dogs barking when they are kenelled up? I do know that when people have dogs that are a nuisence to neighbors it attracts unwanted attention.
So a dog barking and being a nuisance to other neighbors is now punishable by torture?
Who cares what the reasons are why they did it! This is awful! Who could be so mean & cruel to do this to any living creature, especially to dogs who can't escape. I hope they catch them, lock them up & throw away the key.
Who was looking after the pack of dogs while the owners were away partying?

I am not condoning any violence against the animals, to be sure.

But from past experience we know how just one large Alsatian type dog barking from sunrise to sunset can ruin one's enjoyment of garden and patio - a frustrated lonely dog always on a cable, the owners not paying ANY attention to it, even when home.

Barking once every two seconds at anything that moves: crows, squirrels, pedestrians, cars, clouds, rain drops, snow flakes - whatever. Hour after hour 24/7/365.

Don't count on City Bylaw either to do anything about it! We tried, the City will not do anything about it unless the complainant agrees to go to court.

Another law looking good on the books but toothless in reality.
Mr. Prince George, Beaverly is outside of city limits
We are living well within the city limits - looks like you have a similar aggravating situation!

No matter where it is, people should try to be good neighbours, don't you agree?
People always seem to think a barking dog is no biggie and trying to kill a barking dog is an overreaction. You would be right if the person whose acting out isn't sleep deprived. Imagine night after night - or day after day in the case of a shiftworker - you can't sleep because the neighbor wants a dog, he/she just doesn't want to do anything with it. After awhile sleep deprivation kicks in, and it has serious effects. So if you want to keep fido tied up and keep your neighbor awake, beware what your neighbor might become. Below is a quote from the website sleep-deprivation.com. And no, I don't condone shooting or burning dogs, but then again, I've never been kept awake long enough to become that person.

Sleep deprivation can have serious effects on your health in the form of physical and mental impairments. Inadequate rest impairs our ability to think, handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system and moderate our emotions. In fact, sleep is so important to our overall health that total sleep deprivation has been proven to be fatal
Cruelty to any animal is unthinkable to me, they cannot speak for themselves. Deprived of sleep is no excuse to harm an animal. Dispicable people around and they should be ashamed of themselves, lousy cowards. If they are barking all the time try to reason with the people that this is bothering you and most will try to do something about it. They story did not say they we barking all the time, and maybe they were outside in the kennel only the people were out. Would you like someone to throw gasoline on your children because it cried for a while.
well said moretaxesplease, thank you!
There is no justification for cruelty to animals. Period. Settle it with the owners.
"Settle it with the owners."

Yes. However, not all owners are happy when a neighbour comes with a complaint. An attempt to talk may end with a very unpleasant outcome. Permanent owner hostility may be the result.

I wouldn't even give it a thought.
Okay don't talk to the owners. I'm sure you are not saying that you would rather light their dogs on fire to get your message across. That might result in permanent owner hostility don't you think?

When people who are responsible for their pets or otherwise do not do the responsible thing, others will do it for them. Sometimes they will do things that are not kind. It takes two to tango. If you don't want your pets to be dealt with in a horrible fashion, (because there are those that don't care)then deal with them in a responsible way.
"They story did not say they we barking all the time"

We are only hearing one side of the story and its from the side that says their pets were attacked.
Do you really think these people are going to report their dogs for barking all the time???
"Yes. However, not all owners are happy when a neighbour comes with a complaint. An attempt to talk may end with a very unpleasant outcome. Permanent owner hostility may be the result"

Exactly. My family and I had this very outcome for 3 years. RCMP and the City of PG did squat.
Hopefully when the Americans bombed Iraq and Baghdad with their **Shock and Awe** killing thousands of women and children, they didnt kill any animals, especially dogs or cats.

If they did, Im sure it was collaterell damage, however they should still be taken to task for cruelty to animals. Right???
Well, humans are part of the animal kingdom, so being cruel to humans is also animal cruelty. In fact, it is animals being cruel to other animals .... :-)
Those type of things don't happen unless the animals are annoying someone or the owners have annoyed some one. No one cares but the people who are involved. Not me anyway. I have some morons for neighbors but they don't stoop to criminal activities---yet.
