Prince George, B.C-  “Prince George is amazing, amazing, amazing” those were among the closing words from Sir Elton John as he wrapped up his concert in Prince George tonight.

From the opening overture that lead into Love Lies Bleeding,   the musician who has shared his music through more than 4 decades  received ovation after ovation from an appreciative Prince George audience.

It wasn’t lost on the audience that Prince George  had mastered a coup in getting Sir Elton and his band to play the much smaller than normal venue. Sir Elton  explained it this way “We like to go to a lot of places all over the world,   that includes smaller places, which often are much better than the large centres.”

Although there were some who said their only complaint was that the sound system seemed a little over the top for a smaller venue, they did remark that the over modulation seemed to be   worked out by the second half of the show.

It was hit after hit after hit, and by the time Sir Elton started Benny and the Jets, the crowd could not sit down.  The Prince George audience was invited by Sir Elton to fill in the la la la la la part of Crocodile Rock, and they didn’t disappoint.
When he broke into Candle in the Wind, it was  easy to see the different  ages in the crowd.   The older ones  still had lighters which they waved,   the next age group waved  glow sticks or necklaces, and the  third group  waved their cell phones, the glow from the screen  their "candle".

Despite the members of the audience who dressed up in boas and glitter over size glasses, it wasn’t all nostalgia, as Sir Elton sang a new song which will be released this fall, which he recorded with Leon Russell “You’re Never Too Old to Hold Somebody.”

Brought back for one encore, Elton John  took  time to give his band a break by signing autographs  at the front of the stage,  then wrapped up his evening with the Circle of Life and Your Song which  he dedicated to the Prince George audience “Thank you for being so kind, thank you for your loyalty, thank you for your love.”

Earlier today, Opinion 250 talked with CN Centre Manager Andy Beasley who said this concert, the largest ever held in Prince George, was a watershed moment for entertainment in this community. It is expected that with Sir Elton  being willing to make the stop, others will follow suit, and for that Sir Elton, Prince George thanks you.

Well said. It was pretty amazing. Well behaved crowd with lots of enthusiastic people. Made for a pretty special evening.
UNFORGETABLE!!! Thank you Sir Elton John.
Absolutely fantastic. Best concert I have ever been to. He is a class act. Thank you to everyone responsible for bringing this legend to our part of the world. It was very much appreciated! An evening I will never forget.
AMAZING!! He played piano and sang for 2 1/2 hrs straight, the whole place was rocking. Thanks Elton for adding Prince George to your list of performing venues!!!
A gentleman, an amazing pianist, wonderfully expressive with his vocals, all in all, a truly memorable evening!
I liked his new song and his autograph signing was done in a classy way.
Well done Prince George!
WOW!

It was truly amazing! He played for 2 hours and 45 minutes and the crowd gave every song a standing ovation. I have never seen an audience so excited or involved in a concert before!

I can understand why Sir Elton would choose to play in a smaller venue like Prince George - the crowd was electrifying!!!!!
I have seen Elton twice before (a huge fan!!) This was by far, the most amazing concert of the three. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd was tremendous!! He knew how special his visit was to us and he didn't disappoint!!!
Class act! Well done, Sir Elton we love you!!
The armpit of BC experienced something magicial last night....
Thank you Elton!!!!
Perhaps somebody should have taken Sir Elton on a tour of downtown PG. He might be interested in doing a Armpit Aid type of concert to help alleviate the 3rd. world conditions down there!
AMAZING night............oh and Denaljo, thanks for the negative spin on an otherwise positive comments section. I just knew someone would have to do it!
Well said Greta! If I had been in town and not on holidays I would have loved to have seen this legend perform in my beloved hometown! PS Denaljo: Downtown isn't THAT bad, there are tons of things there that I support from stores to restaurants to my hairstylist! PG could get a complete face lift and people would still be negative about it, I'm sick of the bad rap it has! I say if you hate PG so much get the heck out or quit complaining! Something is keeping you here so it can't be all that bad...
Glad everyone had a blast nice to hear.
Denaljo, if you think downtown PG is 3rd world you obviously are clueless.
One of the best concerts I have ever been to. I have seen U2, Springsteen, The Who and this was as good if not better than any of those. My only beef was with the CN Centre staff getting people, including myself to sit down and not dance. By the halfway point of the show, they gave up on that plan thank God. Thank you to Elton for putting on a spectacular show

Interesting. They do not do that at GM Place. That was one of my complaints when we were there recently for an Eagles concert. Luckily it did not happen in front of me, but it did to a fellow just a couple of seats to the left and lower down. I find the PG crowd much more reserved and interested in the show rather than being wrapped up in your own thing and not caring about others around you.

That is why I never get seats on the floor. Chances of people jumping up in front of you and missing the show are much higher there. It's not the time to have a mosh. I want to enjoy the show. Call me a party pooper ... :-)
I was so lucky to have upgraded seats and was in perfect view of Elton & his piano. Friends on the floor had a difficult time with people in front their blocking view. What a classy act Elton is. I have never seen someone sign autographs like that. A true gentleman & I feel so privileged to have been a part of PG history. Thank you Elton & thank you PG. What a great place to live!

Its a rock and roll show, not the opera. Dancing at a concert has been around since the early days of Chuck Berry and Bill Hailey for crying out loud. It was dancing, NOT moshing which is slamming into people and stage diving. Dancing is an expression of the joy that the music makes you feel, and last night was VERY joyous
That is fine. Some people want to dance while listening to rock and roll. Others want to dance to the orchestra playing Viennese waltzes. Others want to dance to jitterbug music from the 20's. Whatever floats your boat. Rock and roll is not actually the first music that people started to dance to.

But, there are also those who do not want to do that. So, we have a dancing section and a non-dancing section. What would be so bad with that idea? Just like there is a drinking section and a non-drinking section.
