Prince George, B.C. -  A crackdown is underway to ensure commercial vehicles driving northern B.C.'s roads are meeting safety standards.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Shirley Bond, says, "This summer's focused enforcement in the north by our ministry's CVSE (Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch) is part of increased roadside enforcement right across the province."

CVSE inspectors will be targeting load security issues and the mechanical condition of commercial vehicles, including: long-haul trucks, local taxis and farm vehicles.  Bond says the inspectors will work in cooperation with local law enforcement.

Enforcement will take place on major highways and companion roads throughout northern B.C..  The minister says recent amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act make it easier for CVSE staff to immediately seize a vehicle's licence plate if critical defects --ie. those that cannot be repaired at the side of the road and are indicative of ongoing poor maintenance -- are found.

More fines from the social misfits in the liberal camp.
Supertech, are you serious?
Would you rather your family gets run over by a logging truck or the like because some goof didn't adjust or repair his brakes or relace worn out tires, etc, etc, etc.? If you knew anything about the trucking/taxi/farming business you'd know that proper vehicle maintenance and repairs are often neglected by some. That puts everyone in danger. I could care less who the party is in power when it comes time for real problems being taken care of such as this one. The more fines the better. It makes everyone that much safer.
Although safety is a big issue, I tend to agree with supertech. As a matter of fact on my way north yesterday at 06:30 one of those so called safety experts from the CVSE had two logging trucks pulled over on a hill with him parked in the middle of the road. Visabilty coming the other way....zero.
Those damn unsafe windshields..................
Public safety is paramount in today's modern society for good reason. However, as a trucker myself, I see far more junker cars and pick-ups on our roadways than heavy trucks. While the consequences are less when light duty vehicles are involved in accidents the facts remain that there are many more accidents involving improperly maintained private vehicles than commercial ones.

Next time you are in a parking lot, just have a look at the condition of some of the tires on the cars parked there. You will be amazed at how long people will run on tires which are well beyond their service life.
