Tolko industries which had announced it was shutting down its operations in The Pas , Manitoba , has announced it will meet in Vernon with a view to keeping the mills open after the employees voted in favour of wage roll backs Sunday. (see Cariboo Mill Operator Closes Shop in Manitoba)
CEP Administrative Vice-President Wendy Sol says Tolko has committed to keeping the operations open for a least a year in view of the wage roll back.
550 people would have been thrown out of work in the town of 5,000 had the mills been shut down. The employees had earlier rejected a wage roll back.
