Canfor Pulls Bush Workers Due To Fires
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - Canfor has pulled its direct employees and contract workers from the company's bush operations near Vanderhoof and Houston, as a safety precaution.
Company Spokesperson, Dave LeFebvre, says, while he doesn't have an exact number, the move affects a lot of workers. But LeFebvre says safety is the number-one priority and with this afternoon's weather system expected to bring high winds, a decision was made to order the pull-out.
He says forest fires and gusting winds are a not a combination to be messed with -- Canfor is monitoring the situation, but can't say, at this point, just when the employees will be allowed back on the job.
LeFebvre says, so far, these are the only two Canfor operations where these measures have been taken.
