Quesnel, B.C. – Quesnel’s City Manager, Byron Johnson, will resign from his position effective the end of September following more than six years with the City of Quesnel, including almost two years as city manager. Johnson has accepted an offer to become the Chief Administrative Officer with the province’s newest municipality, Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.

“Byron was a pleasure to work with, and throughout his time with us he provided outstanding leadership for our staff while carrying out City Council’s mandate,” said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. “We are happy about the exciting professional challenge he’s taking on. With his talents as a manager, we know he will succeed and we wish him nothing but good luck.”

“My time in Quesnel has been rewarding, professionally and personally,” said Johnson. “My sincere thanks go out to Mayor and Council and all City staff for their support and friendship. I’ll miss my colleagues and friends, but at the same time I am looking forward to the challenges awaiting me in Sun Peaks. In particular, my wife and I are looking forward to being closer to family in the Kamloops area.”

Johnson was the City’s Director of Finance and Administration from November 2004 to December 2008, and became City Manager in January 2009.

The City has begun the process of finding a new City Manager.

your mouth is moving but all I hear is blah, blah, blah
The headline makes it sound like there was some controversy. The headline should have read something like "Quesnel City Manager Moves to Resort Town".
I agree kolberg.

"Quesnel City Manager moves to whiter pastures in the hunt for improved skiing and golfing." :-)
To continue the suggestions for a revised headline:
"and to cash in on a great severance package" the old golden parachute clause.
metalman.
I think Metalman has it right here. The revolving door of the outside bureaucrat managers and their compensation packages....
