Prince George, B.C.- As  expected, the McLeod Lake First Nation has singed an agreement with the Province of B.C. to  share in mine royalty taxes generated by the Mount Milligan Mine.

This is the second such agreement to be signed as a similar agreement with Kamloops First Nations was signed yesterday  concerning a new mine being built near Kamloops.

"Following on the footsteps of yesterday's announcement, the Province is pleased to join with the McLeod Lake Indian Band as a partner in environmentally responsible mineral development."said Minister of State for Mininig Randy Hawes.

The agreement with the McLeod Lake Band is similar to the  one signed yesterday in Kamloops in that it places a strong focus on community development to assist First Nations in achieving their social and economic goals.

"This agreement sets a new standard for participation by the McLeod Lake Indian Band in economic developments within our traditional territory," said Chief Derek Orr of the McLeod Lake Indian Band. "We have secured benefits for all our members in a way that is environmentally responsible, and good for the McLeod Lake Indian Band, the region and the Province."

What about Nak'azdli?

Exactly, lost it all! This paper is worth nothing if they cannot get the Ft St James band on board or cannot get the territory issue figured out
Nakazdli band failed to "get on board" right from the start.. They stood in the way the whole time instead of being pro active.
They singed an agreement? Right on! Nothing binding then.
Well I think if the province has any balls at all they should throw Nak'azdli overboard.

Perhaps they already have.
The weird thing is they had a facebook page agaisnt the project and about a week before the TCM take over it got taken down..
Perhaps TCM flipped them some $$ before the buy out to satisfy them. As well they havent been fighting in the media about this project..
There is only one thing the natives cherish more than their native land......and that is how much money they can get for 'Allowing' anyone else to use it.
So they are no different than anyone else then Maverick. Good for them.
"What about Nak'azdli?"

Does anyone actually know what the agreement says? I am assuming that the Nak'azdli have not been ruled out for future agreements.

If they have been, that would make for some interesting times ahead.
If I had historical ownership claims then I'd want to be compensated to... like any other white man would. Good for the McLeod Lake Band I say.
Yes i agree Eagleone..

Its still $34 million injected into the local economy and not ending up down in the lower mainland somewhere.

Really good news for the mining industry as well.
The Necoslie band could not have done things worse in regards to getting anything they wanted, which Maverick stated succinctly. They deserve what they got. NOTHING! The only problem with that is the fact they drug the entire community through the mud with them.
Well at least we have some posts on this site that make some sence
