Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Symphony Orchestra gets set to kick off its 40th Anniversary season with the ever-popular 'Pops in the Park'.
The free concert at the bandshell in Fort George Park begins at 2pm and city residents can sit back in their lawn chairs and soak up the sounds and scene.
Unfortunately, there might be a bit of rain to soak concert-goers, but PGSO General Manager, Ruth Langner, is upbeat, despite the weather forecast.
"It's our signature event, for sure, it's just a great, light, popular concert," says Langner. "We believe Prince George people are hardcore people and they'll bring their umbrellas and, hopefully, if there's a spot of rain, they'll bear with us."
Langner agrees it is a milestone for the local symphony to be turning 40. She says the season will be centred on 'Spotlight on Home': looking back over the 40-years and realizing how much talent has come out of the PGSO, and showcasing some of the up-and-coming talent. To that end, she says, "Our opening is with Austin Lu, Austin is Prince George's own rising star and he's 16 and goes to DP Todd school and he's an amazing pianist."
Lu will be performing Mendelsohn's Piano Concerto #1, as a guest soloist with the symphony on October 2nd at Vanier Hall. Click here for the PGSO's full concert season.
