Prince George, B.C.- Later today, 2:45 pdt, the House of Commons will vote on the bill to scrap the long gun registry.

The long gun registry has been around for 15 years and scrapping it was one of the planks in the Conservative government’s  election platform .

The Conservatives plan to vote in favour of scrapping the registry, the Liberals and Bloc Quebecois say they will vote against so the balance lies with the NDP who will allow their members to  vote the way they want.
The past two weeks have been busy with lots of lobbying  going on from both sides of the debate. The only thing that is certain at this point, is that the vote will be close.

Maybe this should be put to a vote and let the people decide what they want
"The long gun registry has been around for 15 years and scrapping it was one of the planks in the Conservative government’s election platform."

Another PC plank (promise) was to have senators ELECTED rather than APPOINTED!

We all know what happened to that one!

The NDP's stronghold is the rural ridings all across Canada.
By siding with the Liberals to save the registry, these MP's are commiting political suicide.
If the registry fails to die today, there will be a lot of politicans looking for a job after the next election.
The NDP are going feel that bigtime!
Apparently these NDP MPs claim that they went back to their ridings and determined that the majority of their constituents favoured keeping the LGR!

In other words, they listened to the wishes of those who elected them, a rare occurrence these days!

I can't see how that can be interpreted as political suicide.

Of course nowadays anything is possible when it comes to political nonsense.

PM should have introduced this legislation since he is so supportive of it.

The NDP MP's can "claim" whatever they want, it doesn't mean it's true. We'll see next election.
