Kitimat, B.C. – A major component to a multi-billion dollar project on BC’s North Coast will soon be in the hands of the Haisla First Nation.

Members will vote November 17th on a lease agreement for reserve land to be used for the $3 billion Kitimat LNG terminal.  Kitimat LNG wants to build a liquefied natural gas terminal at Bish Cove near the Port of Kitimat.  The facility would take delivery of gas from the Pacific Trail Pipelines, which will be connected to the existing Spectra Energy Westcoast Pipeline system.

Under the terms of the 49-year lease arrangement between the Kitamaat Village Council, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and Kitimat LNG, the Haisla would receive both lease and taxation payments.  Chief Councillor Dolores Pollard says the project will bring both jobs and economic opportunity to the community and is urging support for the agreement.

“Kitamaat Village Council urges our members to read the information provided, ask us questions, and then show us that you support this exciting opportunity”.

Kitimat LNG would be operated by Apache Canada Ltd. of Calgary.

The Haisla Nation says a positive vote on the land deal could see a final investment decision on the project within 6 months.

Four levels of government? Federal, provincial, municipal and now Indian. Maybe taxpayers can be the next bunch trying to influence decisions? Oops! We do that every four years. Other than that, just shut up and pay yer taxes.
Everyone gets a say...except the taxpayers.
And no,you can't trust politicians to listen to what taxpayers want.
If we have learned nothing else,we have learned that!
it's strange that they are not opposed to this set up.like more pipelines that they all say will leak and create massive enviromental disasters.maybe the money side of it is too big to let go of.
