Time To Get On Board With The Cougars

By Ben Meisner

Over the past few years we, including myself, have been quick to come out of the box and talk about how poorly the Prince George Cougars are doing.
The blame for their poor showing has been heaped on management, ownership and whoever is handy to take the scorn for a bad showing.
This is however 2010 and the Cougars have started off this season on a much different note.
The Cougars enjoy a 10 win 8 loss record second only to the Vancouver Giants who have a 10 and 7 record in their division.
That is, in any language, an impressive start in the season and it is every reason why we should be back in the stands to support the team.
Many of you will recall when it was nearly impossible to get a ticket to a Cougars game. You may remember the runs in the playoffs and the excitement it created in the city.
Well without building a commercial for the Cougars it is safe to say that we have a winning team and it is time to support them.
It is great to see a team in the winning column and the Cougars are there in 2010.
I’m Meisner and that’s one Man’s opinion.

You can only crap on people for so long and eventually they won't come back no matter what. I think we're at that point.
Between a rock and a hard place! We want to go to the games, but we don't because of the owner. Do we hold our nose and go to support the players or do we stay away to spite the owner. Tough decision. It has been said that Prince George is not a hockey town. To the contrary. We are not anti hockey,we are anti Brodsky. We love the Cougars but unfortunately they would get far better support and pack the rink under a new owner. What to do????
Please explain why we should care about the fate of this team with its private "owners"?
Shouldn't an athletic team be "owned" by the players?
I went to my first game in a couple of years the other night & was completely
impressed. Unlike the last game I went to
back in 2008, this years incarnation
gave 100% right to the end. I too stuggled with supporting Brodsky & his seeming lack of interest in putting a winning team on
the ice but in the end I fell back on what I have always felt, it is about the players
& to see them develop. The fans truly are the 6th player, good or bad. I definitely will go back to see more. Hopefully Brodsky can see the correlation between
icing a good team & winning fan support.
Hahaha, played the damn game for almost 40 years & I still can't count, one to many knocks to the head. The fans are the 7th
player not the 6th as I previously posted.
My apologies to any goalies reading this.
It will be interesting to see at what level fans will return to watch the Cougers play.

I never beleived and still do not beleive that there ever was 5000 hard core hockey fans in the City of Prince George. I think that when the Cougers first came to town they were new and exciting and a lot of people went to the games, waved towels yelled and screamed, and generally had a good time.

HOWEVER. Over time a lot of these soft fans found other things to do, and went on their merry way. What we have left for the last couple of years were the really **hard core fans**. These fans came to every game win or lose, without being overly concerned about the ownership.

Personally I think that those fans that use the Ownership issue, and other issues to stay away from the games, are just finding excuses. I doubt very much if we will ever get anywhere near the 5000 plus fans we had years ago. The average attendence per game so far this year is around 2000, so there is a long way to go.

Brodsky stated a few years ago he could not make any money at 3000 fans per game. He has since cut a new deal with with City which gives him some more money, at the expense of City Taxpayers, however who knows if it will be enough to keep the team here.

In any event the proof is in the pudding. What has to happen now is to get people out of the Casinos, away from the TV's and ipods, etc; and get them to the games.

Somehow I cant see that happening, but I could be wrong. The fact that they cant sit in the bar and have a few drinks certainly wont help either.
Sure, I held seasons tickets every year since '94, and just when I decide to give them up, the team shows up to play hockey. Figures!
metalman.
Lets support them!!!!
