Vanderhoof, B.C. - The RCMP's North District Prince George Major Crime Unit is now in charge of the investigation into the recovery of a female body near Vanderhoof.

Vanderhoof Staff-Sergeant, Dave Beach, says his officers continue to assist with evidence gathering in light of this situation, which began to unfold just before midnight.

Staff-Sergeant Beach will not disclose the specific location, but says an RCMP officer with the Fort St. James detachment was traveling to Vanderhoof late last night when he came upon a suspicious vehicle at the side of the road.  Officers from both communities were called out, as were Conservation officers.

A 20-year-old man was taken into custody and remains detained, at this point in time.

Investigators from the Major Crime Unit are meeting this hour.  It is expected that the RCMP's North District Senior Media Relations Officer will provide further comment this evening.
