Prince George, B.C.-  With the bang of the gavel, Mayor Dan Rogers punctuated the start of last night’s Council meeting and the start of a new era in communication for Prince George City Council meetings.

December 13th, 2010 is historic, in that it is the first Council meeting to be broadcast through live streaming video on the world wide web.

Yes, the meetings will still be broadcast live on Shaw Cable, however, availability on the web means you can watch Council from any location where there is a computer and internet service.

Webcasting meetings is not a new prctice in Prince George , in fact School District 57 has been webcasting it’s meetings for some time.

What sets Prince George’s webcast  apart, is that the webcast looks like a regular television broadcast with different camera angles. Video clips will be linked to agenda items so you can download the previous agenda, and click on the video link to see the discussion on that item.

All we need now are those thumbs up, thumbs down, voting icons.

Councillors could get immediate response from the peanut gallery on their computers on the opinions expressed during debate.

:-)
Gus that is a great Idea and maybe even a live comment section would be nice. and after the councel metting maybe a short half hour Q&A period.for the net users.
