Wolftek is one of five local companies to confirm its commitment to become involved in a joint-effort to attract highly skilled immigrant professionals to Prince George.

Export North Manager, Charles Scott, issued a plea to the business community to get involved in the effort at a breakfast meeting hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce at the end of last month.  (click here for earlier story)

In addition to Wolftek, Scott says Terra Cognita and the Prince George Conservatory of Music have also agreed to sign on to the process, as have two other firms from the trucking and manufacturing industry.  And, he says, a couple of others in the sawmill industry want more information.  The Export North Manager says he's not surprised at the broad spectrum of interest, "No, we worked hard to make sure this wasn't a narrow focus."

"The tools that we, as a community, need to put together have got to be ones that a variety of applications can easily use for their own needs."

The business stakeholders will work with Initiatives Prince George, the Innovation Resource Centre, the Community Futures Development Corporation, the City of Prince George, Prince George Construction Association and others to put the support systems in place to attract highly-trained immigrants to our city.

Scott says there's still time for others from the business community to get involved, anyone wanting more information can phone 960-0246.

Lets all remember that the promoters of this are being paid with our tax dollars. I wonder what kind of assurances they have in place to ensure their immigrant workers are not displacing locals with the same level of qualifications. Or is it just about our public employees comming up with ways to import cheep pliable labour on behalf of the business community?
