Kelowna, B.C.- The RCMP officer accused in the alleged excessive force  case involving a 51 year old Kelowna man has been suspended  from duty with pay until further notice.

The Abbotsford Police  are  conducting a criminal investigation into the  matter which involved a suspect being kicked in the head by  an officer.  The incident was captured on video.

Kelowna RCMP  say their investigation into the  reports  of shots being fired at a golf course ( which lead to the other  incident) has determined the accused did not have permission to be on the grounds of the Golf course for any reason, and that there were no current permits in place for the use of a firearm, or noisemakers, to scare geese.

The accused, Buddy Tavares, has been released on bail and has several conditions to his release. Tavares  is charged with careless use of a firearm.

Whats with this suspended with pay crap anyways. I kick someone I go to jail and don't pass go. I await for bail hearing and sit on bail for 9 months till trail. For that kind of crime I am looking at six months to a year in jail and three three years probation and don't think I'm going to walk away with anything less. Something is not right here.
What a punishment...he has to stay home yet he still gets paid...that's not a punishment, that is a reward!
Suspension without pay is a punishment, right now he is just on vacation
You just don't kick anyone, not even our own Dog, if you are in a Position of Power you have to have more self Control.
Wow, where did the information saying that Buddy had permits to do what he did come from???

To be suspended with pay means he may not lose his job. To be suspended without pay means he will probably lose his job.
If this thug walks on this assault it just confirms the fact that we need an independant body like a police internal affairs division in Canada. The type that is very aggressive in pursuing bad cops or good cops that make bad decisions.
I wonder chrislivingdowntown, which side of the law do you live on?
i am willing to bet you have probably had more than one meeting with the people in blue...or so your appeared dislike for police indicates, and lost!

and no, I don't think this or any person has the right to kick someone in the face....and the courts will decide, just as they would for you.

isn't it neat, just as with you, innocent until proven guilty...
If you think whats been going on in this country with the R.C.M.P is alright and cool then I think you should seek help with that. Come on how many more times is this crap going to happen. You know and don't give me what you mean crap. This has nothing to do with me buddy. Every flipping month there is something going on in our federal police force that makes them look like the S.A and don't give me this whats that. They are behaving the same way. Even Hitler said "They give off the wrong impression. They are thugs and the public doesn't want that". Now the S.S were not much different but never the less they are beginning to sound just like the S.A and it's a national embarrassment. Lets deal with it.
"Wow, where did the information saying that Buddy had permits to do what he did come from???"

Watch this video and listen carefully. It is from the mouth of the RCMP in Kelowna during a media conference. You should have your answer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1JcCh58E5E&NR=1

Clear from the video is this:

1. "buddy" was on medical leave from a job with a golf course.

2. "buddy" WAS STILL IN THE EMPLOYMENT OF THE GOLF COURSE.

3. a PERMIT WAS IN PLACE to allow a gun to be fired on the course to scare geese away.

4. THERE WAS NO CONFRONTATION.

The comment someone made below the video is: "Listen to the spin that the police officer starts out with and then listen to the questions. What a load of crap coming out of the police officers voice at the start of the video and compare it to what actually comes out during questioning!"

I would agree with that statement.

Watch the video. Listen to the initial words from the formal report. Then listen to the words used to respond to questioning. A bit of a difference.

I will say one thing, the intial assumptions by the police on the scene were likely wrong. However, if one gives them that mistake and agrees it could happen under the heat of the moment (remember police are supposed to be trained to act under such circumstances) there is nothing that would allow them to kick a man that was down on the knees in the face, had the rifle stored in the truck and not on his person and was no threat in that position.
I know where the information came from and it wasn't only from the cops, multiple media outlets reported there were permits etc. I also know that up above in this story they are saying, "the accused did not have permission to be on the grounds of the Golf course for any reason, and that there were no current permits in place for the use of a firearm, or noisemakers, to scare geese".

So the question still remains. "Where did the information saying that Buddy had permits to do what he did come from???" Or in other words, who started the rumour that there were permits etc?

Google up Fred Quilt from Williams Lake. (BCPC). (Before cell phone cameras). Nothing new here folks.
As long as its investigated by the rcmp, the officer acted in a proper manner, its on every form down there.
The cop should be fired! There is no situation that would allow ANYONE to kick and old man in the face. He will now sue ( and rightfully so) get a big cash settlement at the taxpayers expense.
I may be being judgemental in this situation but there is no doubt in my mind this R.C.M.P. member should be uncerimoniously FIRED!
