By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - An avalanche deposit on Highway 16-West between Prince Rupert and Terrace has the route down to single-lane alternating traffic.
According to the Ministry of Transportation's DriveBC website, the snow covered a portion of the route approximately 90-kilometres east of Prince Rupert (56-km west of Terrace). An update is expected around 12pm. A travel advisory is in effect for the highway from the ferry terminal in Prince Rupert to the Agate Creek Bridge, where freezing rain has led to extremely slippery conditions.
The highway is also down to single-lane, alternating further east, near McBride, to allow for a vehicle recovery. That restriction is expected to remain in place until 4pm this afternoon.
Freezing rain throughout the Cariboo has made for some treacherous conditions on Highway 97, particularly around Cache Creek and from 93-Mile to north of Lac La Hache. There has also been freezing rain reported to the north and south of Quesnel.
Around Prince George, highway crews are reporting limited visibility due to blowing snow.
