Prince George, B.C.- The amount paid to City Councillors and the Mayor will be one of the items up for discussion at this evening’s meeting of Prince George City Council. There is a request that Council strike a Select Committee to review remuneration to Mayor and Council, and that any recommendations not go into effect until 2012. It has been 10 year since such a review was conducted, although that last review did allow for Council salary increases over several years.
Also on the agenda this evening, a request to increase some development fees. It has been nearly 7 years since the fees were last increased and staff say compounded inflation over that period has been over 9%.
A report on the Gang Crime Summit that took place last November will update Council on the action efforts coming from that two day event. ( See “Gang Crime Summit Action Plan Update”)
Council will get an update on the Revitalization Tax Exemption plan that was supported by the Committee of the Whole last week. The plan calls for developers to be given interest free loans up front, with the money to come from NDI Trust. The Northern Development Initiatives Trust has yet to approve this idea.
Council will receive the results of two more alternate approval processes, both failed to collect the necessary signatures to prevent the City from moving forward to borrow money. In both cases, only elector signed the form opposing the borrowing of funds. One project will see the city borrow more nearly $3.9 million for its share of the bill for the reconstruction of River Road, the other is for about $758 thousand for the City’s share of work on the Simon Fraser Bridge project.
The final recommendations for the Residential Wood Innovation Comprehensive District will be presented. The recommendations call for no changes to the Crescents Neighbourhood Plan
