New Chair, Anthony Everett, with Premier Gordon Campbell, Dan Rogers and Les Waldie

Prince George, B.C. - "He has a passion for introducing people to the splendours of northern British Columbia."

That was part of Les Waldie's introduction as he announced the new Chair of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society, Anthony Everett, at an official ceremony in the main concourse of the Civic Centre yesterday afternoon. (click on photo at left for video clip)

And Everett is promising to "make magic happen."  He said the Host Society Board members will be stewards for the community.  "I know how hard everyone worked in this community to bring this about and we feel that," said Everett.  "And we're going to make you proud."

Everett admitted there will probably be more than a few 'holy cow' moments in the coming years, as the work begins to make these Games a reality.  He joked that board members felt it at their first meeting yesterday morning.

The Board already has a committee in place, working to find a CEO for the Prince George event -- Everett said that's another critical first step.  But next week, it's off to Halifax to observe and learn at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Well he use to be a communications adviser for the BC liberals... so they'll have a good spin to it I'm sure. I don't know about 'making magic' though... should we all dress up as gypsies for the games?
The lectern is so old, the wood is already turning grey. :-)
The Clowns are spending your Money
Magic is bad. It usually costs lots of money and nobody knows how the result was achieved. Sounds a lot like government bureaucracy.
Great bunch of people have stepped forward to put their money where there mouth is....a young vibrant Board of Directors.

The hours they will spend in the next four year commitment is immeasurable.

To even begin to think that this is a political event or overtones needs "their head examined".

It was political in nature to get the Winter Games but not to host them. It is now about capacity building, not only with physical structures but also organizational abilities.

Lets get at it!

The VOLUNTEER hours they will spend...

Extremely important to note these folks on the Society Board are all volunteers and get no renumeration.
They will be giving up a HUGE chunk of their own personal time over the next four years to try and make this event the best it can be for PG. Before you slag them on anything ask yourself if you're prepared to commit four years of your life and volunteers countless hours of your time (on top of your job) to try a make PG a better place?
My hat is off to the volunteers. That was not my point. The fact of the matter is...There will be an positive
economic impact on business, which is good, but the cost of the games comes out of the taxpayers pocket. It's happened with Expo, the Olympics and all of the other feel good government sponsored events in history. Business thrives and taxpayers have a monolific heretige project to live with and pay for, for years to come. It is a richmans project designed, devoloped and attended by the wealthy. The common man cannot afford to go.
