Prince George, B.C. -  B.C.'s Lieutenant-Governor, Steven Point, acknowledged it is a time of transition in the province, with both the Government and Opposition in the process of electing new leaders.

In delivering his Speech from the Throne in the B.C. Legislature this afternoon, Point says, "With change is always excitement and opportunities to discover new paths ahead and new means of achieving our shared goal of a better future for all."

"This is a time when British Columbians are encouraged to discuss new ideas about making our province an even better place."  The Lieutenant-Governor says, "Through this period, government will ensure a smooth and orderly transition, while continuing to deliver the quality of service that are important to all British Columbians."

That begins tomorrow with the delivery of the budget.  Point says it meets the statutory requirements, "While providing maximum flexibility for future decisions by the new Executive Council in this legislature."  He says, "To allow for the completion of successful leadership selections by both the Government and Opposition, the Government will seek approval from this House of an interim supply that will allow for the ongoing operation of government business."

A new Premier-designate will be chosen on February 26th and that person will be sworn in shortly thereafter.  The Lieutenant-Governor, "And another chapter of British Columbia's history will begin."

He says spending priorities will continue to be focused on health and education.

The Lieutenant-Government began his addressing by recognizing the sacrifice of Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick, who lost his life in Afghanistan, among the many British Columbians heroes, community leaders and builders who have passed since the last sitting.
