Prince George, B.C.- Independent MLA Bob Simpson, says while the swearing in of the Premier and Cabinet was a necessary first step in bringing stability to the provincial government, there is a need for more clarity on some other issues.
Speaking on the Meisner program on CFISFM this morning, Simpson says there needs to be clarity on three issues:
1.the plans for the HST referendum, as the plan is supposed to be to hold that vote on June 24th, but Simpson says there hasn't been any activity with Elections B.C. to move forward with that plan
2. the timeline for a new budget as there are cabinet shiftings which don't have a budget and
3. her timing for a by-election so she can join her colleagues on the legislature floor.
Throughout the campaign, Premier Clark signaled she will be running a more inclusive government than her predecessor and allowing cabinet ministers more license to determine their ministry's priorities and direction. Simpson stated: "Clark's decision to have more MLAs as parliamentary secretaries and committee members and her commitment to reinvigorate legislative committees bodes well for BC and hopefully signals the start of the democratic renewal process Clark promised during her leadership bid. However the HST referendum, the budget, and Premier Clark's election plans are absolutely essential to re-establishing stable and credible government in BC."
