Victoria, B.C.- Gordon Campbell has stepped down from his position as MLA for Vacouver- Point Grey. That clears the way for Premier Christy Clark to run in that riding in a by-election.
When that by-election will be held is not yet known.
“I want to thank the constituents of Vancouver-Point Grey for giving me the opportunity to represent them in the Legislature,” said Campbell. “I also want to thank my many supporters and everyone who encouraged me to run over the years, as well as my constituency staff who provided tremendous service to our constituents.”
Campbell’s resignation is effective today.
Campbell was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in a 1993 by-election, wining the riding of Vancouver-Quilchena. He was elected in Vancouver-Point Grey in the next four consecutive provincial general elections, 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2009.
“It has been an honour to serve the people of British Columbia as an MLA, as the Leader of the Opposition and as Premier,” said Campbell. “There are few things more rewarding than serving in public life and I feel fortunate to have had such an opportunity to do so for nearly three decades in a province and a city that I love.”
