Prince George, BC– John Lane has been appointed to take over the post as Chief of the P.G. Fire Rescue Services as of June 1.

He will be taking over the post from Chief Jeff Rowland who will be retiring in late May.  Rowland  has been with the City’s Fire and rescue services for nearly 35 years and as Chief for the past 8.

“We wish Chief Rowland all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his tremendous service to this city,” said Mayor Dan Rogers. “We are confident that Deputy Chief John Lane will continue to provide remarkable leadership and dedication to the Prince George Fire Rescue Service.”

Deputy Chief Lane joined the Prince George Fire Rescue Service in 2005 from the Toronto Fire Services, and over the past few years has been heavily involved in implementing the Emergency Medical Responder program.

Lane says he is honoured by the promotion “There is a tremendous burden of responsibility that goes along with this position, I am deeply honoured.” He says Chief Rowland leaves a legacy of professionalism and pride and will be truly missed, and he has great faith in the staff who will remain “These are the finest men and women I have worked with.”

Like Rowland, Lane has had a long career in Fire and Rescue services. He served as a paramedic, and was with the Toronto Fire Department for 15 years before making the move to Prince George in 2005. Lane has just turned 50 and says he is not contemplating retirement any time soon, “You’ve got me for a long time.”
