Crown Chips Away at Defence
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. -Crown Counsel continues to chip away at any possible defence Councillor Brian Skakun could have for releasing confidential documents to the CBC.
Under cross examination this morning, Skakun said he could not recall exactly when he delivered the confidential Kitty Heller report to the CBC, but says it wasn't the day before it showed up on the CBC's website.
He says he doesn't remember who he gave the documents to, that "It could have been a summer student, it could have been one of the guys" at the station. although he has yet to explain why he wold give a summer student documents he previously testified he wanted the CBC to "investigate".
The timing is important. The statute of limitations for a case under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy act is 1 year. The information sworn against Skakun was done on August 14th of 2009. The Heller report appeared on the CBC website on August 19th, 2008.
Crown suggests that Skakun took the documents to the CBC after it was revealed that the RCMP had handed out discipline to Superintendent Dahl Chambers. Opinion 250 broke the story about Chambers discipline on August 14th, 2008.
