Vanderhoof, B.C. - A 17 year old youth has a court appearance in Prince George tomorrow in connection with a beating that shocked the Stoney Creek Reserve community.

Vanderhoof RCMP say the youth turned himself in Monday afternoon and is facing one charge of assault causing bodily harm.

The charge relates to an attack on another 17 year old boy that occurred Friday night after a house party in Stoney Creek.

The attack initially left the 17 year old in serious condition at University Hospital in Prince George.

Staff sergeant Dave Beech says the teen’s condition has improved enough that his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening and he is recovering at hospital in Vanderhoof.

The attack brought together approximately 80 people at the Saik’uz First Nation band office Sunday resulting in 38 recommendations to try and put a stop to violence.

When someone beats another person to this extent, and even resorts to using baseball bat...they are fully aware that they could very well kill that person.
What does that say about the person doing the beating?
I would hope the judge takes that into consideration.
A fight is just that...a fight, but this is much more violent.
This kid almost died, and he will likely suffer brain damage to some extent.
There should be a serious price to pay for that.
It looks like the story that a baseball bat was used is not true. Still very serious of course.
It's awesome to see this community pull together like this, it's sad the cause that
brought it. Similar problems on Band lands have been going on for years, but on this one with a real good Chief and very good councilors, I really hope to see change coming. Dave's right of course. The RCMP can only do so much, the band has to pull together and let these young fellows know there's a better system in dealing with their anger and frustrations. I wish all of you well, good luck.
Not to mention the young woman who initiated the meeting, Denise Raymond, who is not a councilor.
Thanks, Bill.
