Rockslide Hits Two Vehicles, Closes Hwy One
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - Highway One remains closed between Yale and Boston Bar after a rockslide came down and struck a semi truck and trailer and a car around 9pm last night...
Boston Bar RCMP and Fraser Valley Traffic Services responded to the slide. Police say the semi was traveling northbound when it was struck by the slide, causing it to jack-knife. The unit is blocking both lanes of traffic and was leaking fuel, but has been contained. In addition, police say a Honda Civic was also hit by the debris.
Fortunately, police say there were no injuries to the occupants of either vehicle. The car has been cleared. Rocks are totally blocking the southbound lanes and partially blocking northbound, 10-kilometres north of Yale.
Ministry of Transportation officials will conduct a geological survey this morning. The highway will remain closed until at least 10am. Motorists planning to head that way can check www.drivebc.ca for updates.
Meantime, Highway 16 east of Prince George could be re-opened at 3pm this afternoon, but, once again, the Ministry of Transportation will post an update on its DriveBC later today. A tanker truck left the route and crashed earlier this week just east of Slim Creek and officials continue to deal with the aftermath as the truck had been carrying propane.
