Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George, Performing Arts Centre Society has been given an open ended extension to complete its feasibility plan.

The plan is into phase five, and has yet to complete detailed consultation with user groups on the new project parameters.

The latest version of the Performing Arts Centre is about 15% smaller than the initial plan. While it will still have the same seating capacity, some of the other spaces for use have been changed.

Society executive members were not able to attend last evening’s Council meeting, but Society  members Les Waldie and Kirk Gable were on hand. Waldie says the extension means they should be able to finalize their work by this fall and will be able to fully explore possible funding sources for the project as well as complete their business and operations plan.

As for site selection, Gable says while there is still a desire to have the new centre in the downtown, that is a decision that will have to be made by Council as the City is providing the property for this project.

The latest cost estimate for a new performing arts centre is in the $40 million dollar range, but, that is a price tag that includes all construction, architectural drawings, site preparation and finishing work.

NO TAXPAYER FUNDING, NO PUBLIC MONIES.
RAISE THE CASH, THEN DO WHAT YOU WANT.

OTHERWISE, PI$$ OFF.
But Loki! Tens of peoples from Lower Mud River, Shelly, Salmon River,Willow River and yes even maybe Redrock would flock to town and spend untold millions of their hard earned money to support this highly desired and anticipated project. Why else would city council so eagerly throw our tax monies at PACS!?
This is no surprise. It is as I said a couple of years ago. It originally was going to cost $50,000,000.00 but now they have scaled back and it will be "only" $40,000,000.00. Big deal. It is still a way too much for the amount of people that will use it. $40,000,000.00 will fix a lot of infrastructure which we need a lot more than a place to go and pretend you are one of the big wheels in town.

The mayor promised me personally that this would go to referendum but it doesn't look like this mayor will even be around to call a referendum. I know he certainly won't get my vote ever again.
If this is such a good thing, then Les, Kirk have you put up your own money? If this thing goes someday will my taxes go up? I now you folks can raise your income to cover an increase in taxes like a politian, but I can't.
Wait a minute... I missed this before:

"As for site selection, Gable says while there is still a desire to have the new centre in the downtown, that is a decision that will have to be made by Council as the City is providing the property for this project."

So its $40,000,000.00 PLUS the City giving them the property? They do realize that is still the tax payer right?
$40,000,000.00 to build. How much to run it once it's built? Let's hope this crazy idea dies with the civic election this fall. I also was told by Dan that this would go to referendum. He better keep his word!!!
PAC's traditionally lose money...not that that ever seems to make any difference when it comes to building them.
