Prince George, B.C. - Three locally-based Victim Services Providers are hoping to raise the profile of their roles in the community, as part of National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.

Members of the RCMP's Victim Services, Community-based Victim Services through the Elizabeth Fry Society, and Aboriginal Community-based Victim Services will hold a news conference later this morning to highlight some of the opportunities for the public to learn more about the services they provide this week.

RCMP Victim Services Coordinator, Krista Levar, says, "All three programs deal with people who are in crisis and have been victims of crime."  She says this week is about expanding people's knowledge in relation to the role Victim Services play for Prince George residents.

One such opportunity is a community roundtable on Wednesday to discuss potential partnerships with the goal of mobilizing community leaders to take a proactive role against victimization.  The event will occur at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre between 11:30am and 1:30pm.  Anyone wanting to register can call the Elizabeth Fry Society at 250-563-1113.

I would like to comment on the recent thefts from back yards in the Millar Addition. Seems to be too much of that the last few nights.
