Prince George, B.C. - The name of the teenaged girl killed in a single vehicle crash on Highway 16, near Rainbow Summit, has been released...
Prince Rupert RCMP say 15-year-old Mary Jessica Faith Hartling of Port Edward succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash, after being air-lifted to hospital in Prince Rupert.
The Hartling family was spoken to this morning, and Constable Lechky says, “they are thankful for all the support that is pouring in from friends, family and the community."
The officer says, “That is one of the greatest things of a small community, in the time of tragedy everyone pulls together and supports one another.”
Police say Hartling was an occupant in a vehicle that left the road and rolled down a 13-metre embankment. The teen was thrown from the vehicle. Constable Laura Lechky says the teen was travelling with three friends - two males and another female - and they had travelled to Terrace for an early morning breakfast before returning to Prince Rupert. The crash occurred just after 7am Saturday morning. Constable Lechky says alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the crash at this time. Initial evidence suggests the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The police investigation continues.
