The new Superintendant for School District 57 is Brian Pepper.
Chairman Bill Christie says the interview process must have appeared like an inquisition panel as there were several members representing different sectors from teachers, to parents to First Nations.
Pepper welcomed questions from the media with a smile, saying he doesn't know what it was that set him apart from the other candidates. He has been the Assistant Superintendant for less than a year, and has been in the system for 27 years, starting as a teacher at Nukko Lake.
Pepper says he loves kids, and he loves working with teachers. Expressing a great deal of respect for retiring Superintendant Dick Chambers, Pepper says he would like to carry on at least two of the things Chambers has demonstrated, namely, "He listens and is approachable, and secondly " says Pepper, "he always welcomes input which helped him make some very bdifficult decisions."
Indeed, Chambers has had some difficult times, with budgetary restraints and school closures. Chairman Bill Christie thanked Chambers for his five years of leadership during such difficult times.
Chambers is retiring at the end of this school year having lead the School DIstrict for the past 5.
