Although self funded, ( mostly through timber sales) the Aleza Lake Research Forest Society has asked the Regional District of Fraser Fort George for letters of support for funding of  "projects of mutual interest".

In a detailed presentation to the Regional District, Melanie Karjala  gave Board members an up to date view of the  research forest.

The 9,000 hectare forest in the Upper Fraser area has, most recently, been used for  research and education, but the forest has had a special designation for much longer than that as it was originally  named a provincial "Forest Experiment  Station in 1926.

The area, says Karjala, "Is well suited for demonstrating our local forest management heritage and settlement of the Upper Fraser."  One of the projects would see the development of the Aleza Lake Research Forest Trail which could be linked with regional tourism objectives.

The details can be viewed by  visiting the Aleza Lake Research Forest web site

This is the kind of information and transformation data that should be tracked for at least two forest cycles - about 120 years.
Did you know Aleza used to haul the logs to the mill by their own railway logging train? It was the only one in the interior. The coast had a few. I wonder if that is on the website?
