Prince George resident Joe Rea coached his team to gold at the Paralympic Games in Turin, Italy.
The Canadian Wheelchair Curling team won the first-ever gold medal for the sport as it debuted at the 2006 Paralympics, by beating Great Britain 7-4 in yesterday's final.
Great Britain had a 4-3 lead going into the 5th end, before Canadian skip Chris Daw made a delicate shot in the 5th to count three and go up 6-4.
Then in the 6th and final end, Great Britain missed an open take-out, allowing Canada to steal one for the win.
Other curlers on the Canadian Team include 3rd Gerry Austgarden, 2nd Gary Cormack, lead Sonja Gaudet, and alternate Karen Blachford.
Today marked the final day of the Paralympics, the 33-member Canadian Team is returning home with 13 medals -- 5 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze.
