The existing launch on River Road

The Prince George River Boat Association has presented its application for a Northern Development Trust grant to the City of Prince George.

The application calls for a grant of $120 thousand dollars to proceed with the construction of a boat launch on the Nechako River.

The Association says the launch would be a boost for local tourism, as it would improve access to the wilderness and expand the opportunity for river tours.

The City has already spent $10,000 and set aside a contingency fund of $80 thousand. Those wanting to build the launch have received more than 90 thousand dollars worth of materials and in- kind donations of labour.

The application needed a resolution of support from the City Council before it could proceed.  Council approved the application.

I can't believe there is not a good boat launch to get into the Fraser or Nechako. There is quite an active river boat club in Ft St John that use the Peace River and tributaries.
We have an even better river system and can't even get in the water. Maybe we are all scared of the rivers? Or scared the environmentalists will notice us? Or just have a hard time getting a boat in either river? Certainly seems we are missing out on a great recreational opportunity.
Well for once I agree with Yammy
