The Fraser Institute has  released its annual  report card and rankings  of public and  independent elementary schools in the province.  The report card is based on the annual  B.C.  Ministry of Education testing of students in grades 4 and 7.  The tests focus on reading, writing and numeracy skills, otherwise known as the Foundation Skills Assessments.  Each school was given a rating out of 10.

Prince George’s best showing is Edgewood, which  hit number 130  of the 1009 schools.  It scored 8.2 out of ten.

Carney Hill  came in at the lowest ranking of #984 out 1009, although the good news for Carney Hill is that in previous years it had been  listed as  having an overall rating of 1.3 out of ten,  and has improved that to 2.3 out of 10.

The co-author of the report card, Peter Cowley says the tests are a valuable tool in measuring the performance of schools "And school-to-school comparisons are the key to improving our children’s education.”

Interesting ranking on Carney Hill. These reports on performance should be a tool for parents to take a look at how the kids are doing. Both the parents and the teachers should be looking at what's happening, if they care.
Mind you it is just the 3 R's, so if the parents and teacher are aiming at a different goal - like the fluffy skills as in arts and phys-ed - then the rankings don't matter. After all apparantly the government always as a job for those that are above being rated.
If you look close enough or not close at all the one thing you are sure to find is a direct correlation or linear relationship between community household income and school rating.

I guess rich people are smarter. What do you think yamadoo?
