Hill Happy With Gun Amnesty and Refunds

Prince George - Peace River MP Jay Hill says with the three opposition parties supporting the gun registry, it is unlikely that the Conservative minority government would be able to rescind the legislation through a vote in Parliament.
The people who support the registry he said are, for the most part, from the urban centers of Canada and "They think we are scrapping the whole gun registry. We would keep the hand guns and restricted weapons in a registry just as they have been since 1934. All the gun owners want is for the shot guns and rifles that they use for hunting to be out of this registration." says Hill.
“I am very happy with what we have been able to do with the gun registry in 100 days in office" says Hill,"We have declared an amnesty which means no one will be able to seize your rifles or shot guns and anyone who has paid lately to have them registered will be subject to a refund." He wasn’t sure of how much money those refunds would mean to the government or how far back on the calendar they would go towards issuing refunds.
" We really would like the matter to pass through parliament" says Hill, "but we know that we would be defeated on the measure in spite of what the Auditor General has said about the registry."
The Auditor General pointed out $39 million dollars had been hidden from the Canadian public but Hill is confident the Harper government will save some dollars, "For starters, we are immediately transferring the responsibility for the firearms act to the RCMP and that move alone will save 10 million dollars to the taxpayers of Canada.
