Show Me The Contract! Was There a Final Deal Signed on Enforcers?

Is Prince George on the hook for cash damages for canceling the Battle of the Hockey Enforcer's?  That is the question of the day, and there is no easy answer.

CN Centre Manager Phil Beaulieu told Council during a special meeting there was a letter of agreement, but no final contract had been signed.

The Athletic Commission's Harold Mann says they have had complete co operation from the promoters.  "We told them we wanted the  fighters to wear head gear,  we told them they must have their jersey's tied down, we told them they must have their hockey gloves on, and  in the unlikely event one should fall off, they must also be wearing regulation martial arts gloves."

Athletic Comission Chairman George Winter says, "No,we had not given them final approval and until such time as they had sent  a certified cheque 14 days  before the event  guaranteeing the participants  their share, we  would not give them final approval for the event. Bear in mind, our agreement is seperate from the City of Prince George in that  they would have to have a separate agreement with CN Centre to rent the building."

Opinion 250  has been given information that the matter will be brought back before Council  Monday night at the regular Council meeting.  The Mayor will be introducing it, as per Councillor Dan Roger's request. (see also Mayor to Go One More Round  With Enforcers)

The Hockey Enforcers Media rep, Brent Johnson, told Opinion 250 their lawyers take a different spin on all of this, and they are under the  understanding  there is a final agreement.  Promoter Darryl Wolski was not immediately available  for comment.

I think I have a perfect solution to settle the dispute between the city and the Hockey Enforcers promoters... Let's have Mayor Kinsley and promoter Wolski suit up, enter the arena, and "duke" it out. Last man standing wins. We could sell tickets to watch the event, and that could pay for the lawsuit....
Will someone please tell me what our mayor is doing negotiating new conditions with the Promoter Darryl Wolski, who said on Dan Russell's sports talk, 99.3 The Drive, last night " I had a long conversation over the phone last night with Mayor Colin Kinsley and we agreed to set the age limit for the hockey enforcer fights to 19 and over." What is our mayor doing setting new conditions on this event with the promoter a day after this event was cancelled by council? What does his action say about the litigation review or possible suit? In my view he is jeopardizing the whole legal review process. Shouldn't the original 'agreement' or 'contract' which the city signed on June 15th have included an age limit clause? It appears to me that Kinsley is in a position of 'conflict of interest', as he is clearly one of the key promoters and supporters of this event and this coming Monday he should not be allowed to vote on whether or not this event should be reinstated. What a mess!
Let's stop all the senseless banter and face facts. The deal is on-and August 27th will come and go. Many of the residents will buy tickets, many will not. The city will make money, well, at least $3500.00 for the rent of the Multiplex-less operating costs. The mayor and council will get Wolski to sign a disclaimer so the city will not bear any responsibility for injuries. (I do not know if this would be contracting outside the law). Obviously Wolski knows the ropes, and who knows if he has been paid off by other cities cancelling. Quietly, with no publicity or fanfare. I do not believe this can be determined as Communistic, or dictatorship, but just very bad judgement by a city employee who was trying to help a buddy promote a business venture.
To those who fought so desperately to have the event go forward-enjoy. To those who will not be pleased-accept defeat. Can't win 'em all, and we do not need a hefty increase in our taxes. Let it go!!!! and Cheers!!
Prince George would not be the first in BC where such an event has been cancelled for legal reasons.

This MMA fight was cancelled in Vernon about 18 months ago.

Explore the web site and you will notice that it is one of those sites which is no longer maintained likely because those promoting this type of event are unable to fnd support for their initiative.

Anyone can be a promoter. Not everyone can be a successful promoter.

This City has been duped by one such promoter who does not know what he is doing and thus has a history of being turned down by one place after another.

It appears he has finally found a gullible City Staff, Athletic Commission and Mayor.
