As the City of Prince George  starts mailing out the property tax notices, there comes a call from the B.C. Chamber of Commerce.

In a report tabled  at the Chamber’s  annual general meeting over the weekend,   the  Chamber  says the property tax system needs to be updated.  It points out that even though business has no  impact on  education costs,  more than one third of all property taxes  paid by business are for school taxes.

The balance  beween residential and business property taxes was a matter brought to the Prince George Council last month by the head of the local Chamber of Commerce.

How I understand it, the tax portion labelled "School tax" doesn't actually go towards the schools but just into general revenue any how. Some portion of that ultimately makes it to the schools but it is not like they get any where near the amount collected.
Typical for the Chamber to complain about any cost to train their future employees. Much easier to import trained employees to displace those here in BC that you do not want to pay to train.
You got that one right Chadermando.

Business may have no impact on education when viewed through a very narrow looking glass. However, education, or lack thereof, certainly has an impact on business.

Perhaps the Chamber has forgotten the symbiotic relationship of business with eucation. They need educated people. The cracks in the sytem are starting to show. The supply of educated workers is going down and the demand is rising.

The Business Council of Australia certainly has a different view than the local business managers and owners. At least there are some more enlightened places on this earth.
