A young woman is under arrest after a downtown confrontation involving a knife, says Constable Gary Godwin, of the Prince George RCMP detachment.

The incident happened shortly after noon today when the suspect attempted to steal some clothes from the Salvation Army on Victoria Street, says Godwin.

The suspect ran outside and was pursued by a manager. When confronted, she pulled out a knife, then dropped the knife and ran off. A dog team tracked her to the 20th and Redwood area, where she was located by RCMP.

The woman, a 20-year old resident of Prince George, has been arrested.

Well, I'll be-even the dog team-but the Mounties get their woman.
Attempting to steal DONATED clothes from the Salvation Army.
Now this is surely newsworthy world wide-or at least CBC.
Get on it reporters-P G makes the big time in a major capture of a dangerous thief.
Aw phooey! Why did I bother?
You hit it bang on trusted......

I mean, if this woman needed clothes, she should have been able to get them from the Salvation Army for nothing.

As far as I know, they do not even inventory the stuff when they receive it. Its a pure cash transaction.

pulling a knife is not a smart move, and then dropping it on top of that .... she must have been on something ... or maybe she should have been on something but wasn't ....
As the bleeding hearts would surmise...the whole episode "is a cry for help". Doncha know that?
Why cry for help when the government is deaf to the reality of poverty and its link to drug addictions. People voted the B.C.Lieberals back into power the last time. So now we get what we voted for. As it has often been siad the Americans shot their politicians, we re-elect them. Poverty is the worst form of violence it's true.
Ah crap, here it comes. Cry....cry...blah blah.

Are you poor REALIST? If not, why not? Someone can use your cash more than you, so cough it up.
Sorry if reality is too much for you. As long as you beleive that you are the center of the universe and that having money as your god is o.k. then you will remain lost. I do not have money as my god. I understand that the economy is here to support society, but unfortunately, our leaders have got it backwards and believe that society is here for the economy. That's why the poor misguided manager chased the woman instead of just letting here have the clothes. Her precious money was more important than the dignity of the woman.
Well I'll be shaking my head for awhile over that posting by REALIST.
That is so "far out" it is not even in left field, it is clean out of the ball park.
I have not had the misfortune of attempting to understand a posting by anyone quite so "thick" for some time.
They say it takes "all kinds to make a world."
Damn if they aren't right!
Hey, REALIST....If we voted for Carole James and her N.D.P. we wouldn't have poor people anymore in this province. Right?
Realist,

Is it fair to assume your post was just to get everyone worked up and get them posting?
If so it worked!
And surely you cannot be serious and mean what you wrote.....correct?
Sure We need to start thinking about the real causes behind peoples actions. Our society is in deep trouble and the time for band-aid solutions are over. Inflicted poverty and disenfranchisement are causing all kinds of trouble. Addictions are a symptom of these problems. Governments who support neo-liberal ideologies (such as the B.C. Lieberals) are effectivly driving money out of the pockets of the poor and middle class and into the hands of the wealthy. We are being enslaved and many don't even know it. We have been given wake-up call after wake-up call but instead of action we roll over and hit the snooze button repeatedly. So if you found my post shocking it is because there is a truth to what I have said. If it causes discusion all the better.Marty, I give you top marks for you persceptiveness but, only through waking up the masses can we hope to see needed changes.
So REALIST..." Tell me something I don't know. So. How are we gonna deal with our messed up world? All those individuals who are smug and have their "lives together" are gonna pick a person who has a messed up life and take the time to "help" them get their lives "back on track?" I don't think so, Tim. The people who have "no problems or issues" are gonna play "interventionist" just like they do on TV cause they wanna help that person? Maybe that person doesn't want help. I know! Give them money!! That solves everything. One out of ten people were on welfare in this province when the N.D.P. were in power. Where'd they all go? To Alberta? How about the "hood"? Look after your own little world, Mr. Realist, and I will look after mine. I hate people who try to inflict their doctrine, views, religion etc. on me. Every one has something to sell. Everyone has an agenda. Selling soap, cars, religion, diets ad infinitum. (That's Latin) If people minded their own business world wide maybe we wouldn't have a problem in the Middle East too. Some countries want to sell religion and death. We dither about "intervening." Drat! There's that word again. Let them all kill each other so the survivors can say to themselves, "Boy, has that been a lesson to us!" I hope MY post isn't shocking too. Maybe it will just give you a buzz! Ah, yes. There's that old cliche' "waking up the masses". Ha ha ha. Reminds me of that old saying, "In order to achieve a classless society, we must organize the working class." Yes No? Maybe? Hmmmm?
"I hate people who try to inflict their doctrine, views, religion etc. on me."

*LOL* ... and you are not trying to do that??? IF not, why bother posting your thought?

Simple I would think.

;-)
Holy crap is everybody overthinking this. The woman involved probably did not think about it that much. This has all the landmarks of a drug induced theft and she probably didn't think about it at all, just seemed like the thing to do at the time, probably didn't even need the clothes.
Part of the problem is not that these people are drug addicts first. Drug addiction for many of them is a symptom of an underlying disease. I do not know how many of you realize that many of the street people are part of the result deinstitutionalizing those who have some level of mental illness as drugs became more and more the method of treating such illnesses.

http://www.psychlaws.org/GeneralResources/Article11.htm

Most of the drug addicts who do not have a known mental illness are actually reasonably law abiding citizens who are members of the middle class and have jobs which can pay for their habits.

Before we start categorizing this woman into some sort of underclass it would be nice to know a bit more about her background.

Even if we should get to know her background, why berate her? Is there something in doing that which makes those who do so feel superior? Is this some sort of macho thinking that needs to happen in order for those who like berating others to assure everyone that they are still superior to all around them?

If so, try comparing yourself to Bill Gates for a change.
Hey owl,I would never do that. We would need a world of mutes fer that. Intelligent discussion. Yeah. That's the ticket! A dialogue of ideas and thoughts. Besides, it would be kinda boring if every one was the same. I hope you take my comments as well as every one elses comments with a grain of salt. With mine ya probably need a wheelbarrow full. Picture a happy face at the end of this diatribe. P.S. I am addicted to placebos, and I don't know if it is worthwhile quitting or not.
Simple fact-the clothing arrived at the Salvation Army absolutely "free" and I assume there were no strings attached. (I like that one).
Just let the woman have them and no need for the R C M P, dog master, bun wagons, heavy police presence, and making such an issue of a few rags.
Give us all a break, and go bust a crack house, and put them away-preferably for life.
I wonder if they don't all feel rather stupid over this big news item?
I would hope so.
"Manager pursued suspect, when confronted, she pulled a knife"

When something is donated for someone in need, is not the intent of the donor that it would be provided for free if the needy person did not have the resources to pay for it?

There is usually no expectation of compensation for the donor when they give generously and willing.

Why do we need to make a federal case over this single, insignificant incident? Why didn't the Manager just let her go and save everyone a lot of emotional trauma?

Just look at the comments and see how many of you got all bent out of shape about this. What is really important to you? Helping someone in need, or upholding justice? Chester
Chester,

had she been that desperate and asked for the clothing to be given to her, maybe, just maybe, they would have said fine.
But if someone steals money from me say to go buy a hotdog because they are hungry I will be extremely pissed off and want to beat their head in.....but if they ask me to go buy them a hotdog, they stand a very good chance i would do just that.

Ignoring that someone is stealing, and allowing it to go on is not doing anyone in society any good!
To bad this was not like the USA, The lowlife when she pulled the Knife would have been shot dead. ONe less moron to worry about, and she would nor be able to breed, SO less Morons.
Hey Don: One less moron....so "fewer" morons. Sounds better don't it? My English teacher would be so pleased that I passed this on.
Marty, if you or I or any reasonable thinking person was in the same position, that is probably what we would have done.

But, I don't think she had it all together that day. Who is really in need of clothes with the kind of weather we have been experiencing? Unless it was a bikini or summer outfit. Chester
No. Like my way...It sounds better. Thank you for your advice though.
You're welcome, Don
This thread still cracks me up....thanks for the great laughs everyone ! :=)
Has anyone ever seen the manager at the Salvation Army??? I am a single parent who shops alot at the thrift stores and all are very friendly, except the Salvation Army ( Manager) who watches you like a hawk and follows you around the store peering at you from behind donated clothing racks, No it is not nice to steal , but nor is it nice to be judgemental about about a person you have not even met, yes the salvation army should be there if you need clothes and do not have enough , but they don't even budge on a price , The Salvation Army has done alot for alot of people, but there is still more that needs to be done , I go in to buy the clothes because they are cheap and affordable , but I also like to spend my money where it is going to make a difference , for that manager at the Salvation Army I hope you feel real PROUD that you caught a real hardcore criminal, Oh but just wait, it could have just been a poverty ridden person who thought she had no other choice but to steal, as you would not give her a bit of a deal...Hmmm!!!!What a way to boost a persons self esteem by following them with the mindset that all they are there to do is steal, I think that a person would go to a much more extravagent store if drugs were the case the girl abviously needed something to cover her back for the night Dan't ya think???
