Prince George RCMP continue to investigate a single-vehicle rollover that occurred Tuesday on the Mud River hill.

The 19-year-old male driver, from Fraser Lake, and a 16-year-old female passenger, from Vanderhoof, were both thrown from the vehicle and injured during the Tuesday morning crash.

The young woman is in Prince George Regional Hospital with severe facial injuries, but is doing better as her condition was initially listed as seriously injured.

A 16-year old male, also from Fraser Lake, was the only person wearing a seatbelt, and RCMP report that he sustained the least injuries.

In this day and age, being some 30 / 40 years into mandatory seatbelt wearing, I can't believe the level of noncompliance. In another epinion on this board, Meisner and I disagree about the user pay concept but, in this case, I do believe those who did not wear seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle should bear some of the medical costs... should they survive.

This goes for helmets too... motorcycle, ATV, bicycle, skateboard... on and off road.

We in the Interior / North have far too high an incident rate of not wearing seat belts and it seems as if every other reported accident identifies yet another individual not adhering to common sense. If anyone wishes to dispute the need for further deterrents, perhaps you'd like to take up the discussion with Rick Hanson, who once road in the back of a pickup truck.
Kudos to the youngster that used his head, not his heart when deciding what to do when he jumped in the truck.

To the guy without the seatbelt done up: Learned yer lesson? Hope so.
