Architectural rendering of  buildings in block "H" of development at Westgate

Prince George City Council has approved development permits  that will add a further 72 thousand square feet of retail space to the Westgate complex at Highway 16 and Domano Boulevard.

The  permits call for three different areas to be developed including the space just south of the existing Tim Hortons.

Included in the approval is a variance permit that allows some of the buildings to have a reduced setback, including a zero setback next to the building occupied by Canadian Tire.

The Development Services Dan Milburn says the plans will bring the Westgate project to 95% completion and his department supports the applications.   The applicant plans to start construction as soon as possible with completion set for next year.

Councilor Glenn Scott expressed some concern that during the construction phase there be every effort made to ensure dust suppression measures are  followed.  He was assured there are bylawsin place to ensure fine particulate matter is kept to a minimum.

Money talks!
People talk... where money is spent, often reflects where people's interests lay.
Anyone got the message yet?
No, no, revitalizing the downtown will not consist of any big businesses-it will consist of a gigantic "gaming centre."
How it will fit in with the needle exchange, soup kitchens, pawn shops (we need those for the losers who still have something to pawn), the ladies with that questionable profession, thrift stores, flop houses for the homeless, pan handlers, etc etc.
The "gaming center" will be the saving grace of the downtown in this progressive city of Prince George.
Face it-there is nothing else-no other solution.
By the way-how is that condo development progressing? Have they broken ground yet? Why is no one keeping tabs? Such a big announcement just before the civic election to boost Kinsley-and now-sweet nothing.
Anybody out there in the know?
That's ok trusted....I have no plans to visit downtown in any event.
With the new development at 97 and 16 it should be clear to all downtown is shelved until PG grows to justify more office buildings.
Money talks. Mine says , "Goodbye." I wonder if they will move City Hall up closer to College Heights? That's where the action seems to be, everytime you turn around.
Lots of empty space in Pine Centre, and Parkwood if anyone wants to set up a business. At least 25 empty spaces between the two.
O K Pal- who is going to look at their 40 to 60 page leases and affix a signature in order to set up a business in one of those locations. Those mall leases give them ownership of you, and all your assets, and dictate to every waking moment of your existence.
People who sign those are pretty damn desperate to go into business, or else they are chains, and they can use any outlet they choose as a clearing out spot. The average guy does not have the wherewithal, or brainpower, to read the lease, let alone understand it. Many are duped into affixing a signature, and realize the duplicity of that lease if they want out prior to the expiration date of the lease.
Why is there never any provision for an "ESCAPE" clause? And obviously no merchant gives that any consideration. Sheer stupidity! The mall owns you, lock stock and barrel!
Recently, a mall I am aware of had a sewer mishap, and a number of the merchants had backed up sewer flooding their premises. The mall manager simply told them to call their insurance company if they required assistance re clean up and repairs. They did not so much as make the offer of supplying any bleach or janitorial assistance to effect a clean up. Numerous insurance companies have a $2500.00 deductible for claims. (Plus one takes the risk of an increase in premium for effecting a claim).
I, for one, would never commit to the demands a mall lease expects one to live with.
Sign your life away-and there would be no such thing as a "fair fight" battling those mall owners. They have every area covered-and you better pay attention, as they own you for the duration of that lease.
