Greg Foster, the owner operator of the Oasis Pub in Mcleese Lake, says some residents are saying the sequence of events in the shooting death of a man earlier this week, could be heard on police scanners.

Foster says “there are a lot of people in this little town who have scanners"  "Some of them are saying its their understanding the sequence of events went like this;  A Williams lake police officer was on the radio saying he had a man handcuffed to a tree, then we heard the officer asking for an ambulance and then finally asking for a coroner to attend the scene."

A man in his early forties, reported as about 5 foot 3 and weighing about 130 lbs was shot dead by a police officer.

The officer involved  says there was a violent struggle, he feared for his life, and  that is what lead to the shooting.  The officer in question received a broken hand, was treated and released from hospital in Williams Lake.

The shooting occurred at the end of a runaway lane on the road leading from the Gibraltar Mines east of the Mcleese Lake.  The road runs into highway 97 in the community.

Police were called after a complaint was raised about a man camping at the end of the runaway lane.

Foster says, the man in question came to the pub in Mcleese Lake almost every day. "I’ve been in the business of handling people over the past 22 years" he said, "This guy was not the type who created trouble."  According to Foster, the man was looking for some peace and quiet "The guy sat out in the back of the pub and would say boy what a great view you have here, this is like heaven."

Foster says the man talked now and then and indicated to the pub owner "He was camping in the area with his motorcycle and tent after trying to get his head straight after going through a messy break up with his wife.

Delta police are investigating the shooting.
